THE story of the battle of Saragarhi is one that makes one proud of belonging to humankind. Saragarhi was a small picquet, near Lockhart fort, in the North West Frontier Province. Several such small fortresses and picquets had been built by the legendary Maharaja Ranjit Singh to safeguard the NWFP, from tribes of Pathans and Afridis, who were said to be excellent warriors but terribly cruel and merciless in their killings. On September 12, 1897, 21 Sikh soldiers of the then 36th Sikh Regiment were besieged by 10,000 Pathans and tribesmen. The military action at Saragarhi is said to have lasted for the better part of that fateful day.

Sirphire 2012 - Movie Review

Story: Sirphire revolves around three students who think that life should just be enjoyed, however, how much it should be enjoyed is not the point. Inder (Priyanshu Chatterjee), Preet (Preet Harpal) and Bittu (Roshan Prince) are extremely busy in making fun of life. The entrance of beautiful girls Simran (Monica Bedi) and Jazz (Gurleen Chopra) is not enough for the three friends to stabilize their lives or to focus on anything else apart from making fun. But later on due to an incident they have to bear a big shock, and suddenly they find themselves in huge trouble. From then on the meaning of living life changes for them and trying to balance their lives becomes their primary goal. While the friends are going through a tense situation and struggling in life, their love life is also affected by this and this also becomes one of the reasons to sort out their lives later on.

Review: If a movie contains a positive star cast, great music and a tremendous promotion on top, it will definitely catch the eye of viewers to ensure that there is a weighty collection of audience in the cinema hall when it releases. Sirphire covers all these perspectives.

Including bollywood stars like Monica Bedi, Priyanshu Chatterjee and well established singers like Preet Harpal and Roshan Prince in the movie, and to add to that buzz of comedy artists like Binnu Dhillon, B.N. Sharma and Karamjeet Anmol, Sirphire was one of the much awaited movies to hit the screens. So we need to find out how it looks like when the wait is over.

Sirphire tends to deal with the most common problems of youngsters these days. It highlights how Youth take their life in a casual manner at the time of when they are studying in their college years. Unaware of practical life, having fun and making so many mistakes, but they still choose to remain in the same lifestyle. The movie tries to address these issues and also tries to deliver a social message.
Sirphire can be called a good effort to entice the youth to get their lives stable and balanced but the movie lacks on some important aspects which are needed to make it one of the favourites to watch for the multiplex audience. The movie looks very good in patches. The subject of the story is quite impressive but it hasn't come out as appealing as it should have been. Sequence of story is also not up to the mark. At some points, the scenes don't relate to each other and even some of the scenes seem to be unnecessary. But there are many positivities to remember like the friendship theme and few emotional moments are really touching.

Sirphire is an important venture for few of its artists especially for Preet Harpal who has cemented his feet in singing from last many years and with Sirphire he is making his debut as an actor. To be honest Preet never looked like that he is making his debut in this movie. He played his role wonderfully well along with other actors. Other characters like Priyanshu Chatterjee, Monica Bedi, Roshan Prince and Shivender Mahal have played their part well enough. Gurleen Chopra has also looked very ravishing in her character of Jazz. Though the movie script fails to end some topics which were started related to some characters. Binnu Dhillon, B.N.Sharma and Karamjeet Anmol have managed to fill the comic aspect of the movie by providing the desired dose of comedy that's required according to the subject of the movie.

Harjit Singh Ricky is the director of Sirphire and to be practical he has done just about decent job. Cinematography and screenplay might not be tremendous but decent enough to carry the film to its motive. Music and background score has been produced by Jaidev Kumar and which has already appealed a lot with songs like Look-Lak and Gaani.

All in all Sirphire is not an accurate but decent enough effort to guide the youngsters to take their lives in right directions and to keep it balanced between fun and sincerity.
